The Artist

Carly Isabel is an American oil painter from Montgomery, AL and currently resides in Laguna Beach, CA. She attends LCAD and is set to graduate in May 2024 for her BFA in Drawing and Painting with an emphasis in Illustration. The inspiration behind her painting’s concepts are derived from various literature aspects while her light and color aesthetics originate from nature. Depicting singular scenes to encapsulate copious viewpoints from inspired sources gives control of the narrative to the painting’s tone.

Influenced by the Rococo and Romanticism art movements, the subjects in Carly’s paintings are portrayed as a counterpart to the environment. One of her focuses as an artist is to create a more sustainable practice during her painting process. She connects most with her work when her art acts as a placeholder for words.

Artist Statement

Literature holds a unique power to articulate my thoughts and emotions when I struggle to express them myself. The writers who convey such sentiments speak in my language of visual arts. Each of my painting’s processes is influenced by a piece of writing, facilitated by a simple sketch with minimal composition changes, and a direct painting application. Alongside literature, the concepts and effects of light derived from nature holds as a strong visual element in my work. I find that the beauty of reading a painting lies in its ability to evoke multiple, personalized narratives.
